Three Years and Counting

On Tuesday Nick and I celebrated our three year anniversary. Wow! Three years already!? I can't believe how much has happened these past three years and it scares/excites me to think of what the future holds. Only time will tell!
For our anniversary Nick had planned out this lovely day.... that kind of fell through. We were going to get a couples massage in the morning but that didn't work out. Then we were going to head up to Park City and go on the Alpine Slides, that didn't work out either :( Rain got the best of it. SO instead we went shopping! :) No complaints here. I can always go for some Park City outlet shopping. We then went to a restaurant called Zoom where we ate a delicious meal. What matters most is that we spent the day together right? awwwww. It was a perfect way to welcome year #4! Here is to many more!

I would like to start this post off by saying although Nick and I do get to travel to fun places and do fun things I feel like we "earn " it in one way or another. As many of you know Nick travels for his work and in doing so he earns LOTS of points with Delta and Marriott and Hertz. This is where the rewards come into play and we travel using these points. On some occasions I get to go with his work. SO how do I feel like we earn it you ask? Nick for one spends many nights in hotels, works long hours to the point of exhaustion and then has to get up early the next day to fly to the next city and worst of all, he has to deal with Distributors! Although he does get some play in, its mostly work and as for me, I spend many nights alone. Coming home to an empty house, going to bed alone, eating alone. You get the point. A LOT of alone time. Although having Prez helps :) and THAT is how I feel we earn it. Anyway, On to our amazing trip!

For Nick's work they took the top ranking distributors on an incentive trip to Ireland for a week. Nick and I went out a week early and spent 6 days in England. "Killpack", originally "Killpeck" is from England so Nick was very excited to go for that reason. That and the Royal Family. ( I don't get his fascinations sometimes) He stayed up and watched Princess Diana's funeral service for three hours on the computer while we were there. But anyway, neither here nor there. We had a great time in England. I will walk you through our pictures and tell you about our trip!

ENGLAND

The first night in England it was down pouring! We walked to the Buckingham Palace to check it out.

We found these sweet cut outs at a souvenir shop. Everyone tells us we should be them for Halloween. How do you like Nick's Prince William smile?

Westminster Abbey. It was interesting to walk through and learn about the history. I also think it's weird that it's a burial/place of Royal marriages. I don't know how I would feel getting married in a place full of decayed bodies. :)

Where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge come out after they were married. It was fun seeing it on TV and then being able to see where things took place in person.

London Eye. It was cool to be able to see the whole city but I don't know if it was worth the price. We learned that London is VERY expensive while over there.

Yummy! They had delicious chocolate! Nick and I were happy to eat this over their less than appetizing food in London.

Tower of London. Where the Royals lived back in the day and it was then turned into a prison with torture chambers and animals and such. It was very fascinating!

Tower Bridge. They used to allow people on top but then people were committing suicide off it so they put a cabosh on that.
William Shakespear's Globe theater. Was originally built in Stratford Upon-Avon but that one burnt down and it was rebuilt here in London. I am sure you all knew that from your history classes :)

Thriller Broadway. "It's close to midnight something evil lurking in the dark" It was entertaining but I don't know if I would go to it again.

Driving on the left side.... it was interesting to say the least. Nick made me drive to appreciate his driving and let's just say we went on a little baja ride on the sidewalk. You can't help but steer to the left when cars are passing. Especially on their narrow streets!

I absolutely loved this little town of Bibury! Very picturesque! The cottages there were over 400 years old! Crazy!

Amazing right? This doesn't even give it justice.

Our breakfast they made us at our B&B. We requested a traditional English breakfast and apparently that consists of cereal, fruit, and a little scrambled eggs. oh and little dry toast. Who knew! It was pretty consistent with the rest of our dining experience in England. :)

Williams Shakespeare's birth place. I learned a few things about him that I didn't know. Or rather about his time. Did you know that "Sleep Tight" comes from back in his day when they slept on ropes and had to tighten them every night. Interesting eh?

Billy Elliot Broadway. Our last night in England we wanted to do something fun so we bought these tickets about 1/2 hour before it started. We made it on time!

IRELAND
I kind of fell in love with Ireland while there. The people were super nice, the food was delicious and flavorful, the city of clean and the country side was amazingly beautiful. I even felt safe and ventured out on my own one day when Nick had to work. I LOVED it there.

Guiness Factory in Dublin, Ireland. We got to explore the factory and learn how beer was made. At the end we went to the top of the building and everyone was given a free pint of beer. We opted for the Coke.

Irish men jumping off the bridge and swimming to the next bridge. They were jumping for a cause like MS or something like that.

In case you wanted to see one up close.

Grafton Street. One of my favorite street in Ireland. It had a bunch of shops but probably the real reason it was one of my favorites was the ice cream parlor Mmmmm.

Told you it was beautiful. The whole time there I kept thinking to myself as we would go different places that it would be a perfect place for a photo shoot.

The first night that the distributors came in Nick and his coworkers had to dress in these killer kilts. Doesn't he look good? :)

St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. Or St. Patrick's Catedral as the Irish say it. the "th" sound doesn't exist in their language or dialect I should say.

I was trying to get a picture of Nick in the air doing a heel click. Never did get one.

We ate at a place called Kate's Cottage one night and they had a live band with the bag pips and Irish girls dancing and everything. I even danced a little.

One day we did a bus tour called the RIng of Kerry which was just a scenic drive. It was very pretty but a little too long to spend in the bus. This was one of our stops. Very windy in case you couldn't tell.

Lakes of Killarney. Nick thought he was strong enough to hold me with one arm so right after this picture was taken he tries to hold me out and drops me on my head. Looks like I am heavier than a 5 year old girl. Kidding babe :)
Our last three night we stayed in a castle called the Dromoland Castle and they greeted us with Horse and Hound. I would have to say it was the high light of our trip. They had so many fun activities to do including Sardines. Ok they didn't offer that but it didn't stop us from playing one night. We even had Nick's boss playing. It is not easy finding someone in a huge castle. Not to mention creepy in some areas.

Falconry. If you ever have a chance to go I suggest you do it! Very cool!

A little Archery. Not to brag but I did hit the bulls eye right on the X. Ok I am bragging.

Our last night there we dressed up in these lovelies and had a fancy feast. Felt like I was right back in that era.

Cliffs of Moher. VERY cool! This is where "Princess Bride" was filmed. It was such an awesome sight! It was a great way to finish off our trip. Why don't we have anything like this in Utah? Aside from the fact that we are inland.

Epic Fail. One day we will get one of these.

I can't believe this trip has already come and went. I remember when Nick first mentioned that I MIGHT be able to go. It seemed like forever ago! It definitely was a trip of a life time and I am so thankful I got the opportunity to go. Thanks babe for working so hard and allowing me to go on all these trips. As for you England and Ireland, I will be back.

This experience way way too funny not to share
So this morning i was coming home from my workout sweaty and all and I see this old man walking down the street looking lost in a jacket and gloves and a hat. The weather outside is way too warm to be wearing such accessories. As I pass him I think to myself I can't just leave him out here so I flip around and pull over.
"excuse me sir do you need any help?" He walks across the road and to my car. As I am asking if everything is ok and if he needs a ride he walks over to the passenger side door and pulls on the handle. Well I take it he needs a ride. I am asking him questions and he is just kind of mumbling as he gets in. I notice as he gets closer that he has just a jacket over his garment top. No shirt today. I think to myself oh no what have I just got myself into? I have this senile man in my car and I have no idea where he lives. I keep asking him where he lives and what his address is and he isn't really responding to me. Just keeps talking about the pond near by and the trees. I figure out that he isn't completely (completely key word) senile just really hard at hearing and I just need to speak up. I get out him that his name is William Melton and he goes by Bill. If you want to meet a lot of Melton's just go to Virginia. I keep asking him if he can guide me to where he lives or what his address is and he said "Well I didn't think I would need my address today"
As I am driving down the road trying to find where this old man lives he directs me to the senior citizen community in Springville and I am thinking well this looks promising. As we loop around and around the community (both times he comments on how the wind feels good at the exact same spot) trying to spark Bill's memory we get no where. We see people outside and I ask if he knows them and he said yes and he waves and they wave so I pull over and I said do you think they would know where you live and he said well I don't know them and I said you said you did and he said well they waved so I waved. Oh geez what to do what to do Dyanna. I also did not have my phone to try and look up his address that way. I was up a creek. At least I had a friendly old man by my side.
Bill is apparently really into horticulture because he could have cared less where he lived but he loved the willows and the pansies(grandma Meltons favorite flower) and the mountains which he informed me have been there a really long time. To Bill this was just a joy ride.
Back to square one I head back to where I picked him up and he is then able to guide me to his house. "oh look at those rocks" "willows there" "this grass is weak, ,my grass in't weak" "what pretty flowers"These are the ramblings of Bill as I am driving him home.
As I pull into his drive way (Hoping that it in fact was his drive way) I help him out and he tells me about his daughter Margaret that he lives with and how she is a nurse and that she is pretty and that I have a pretty smile and great teeth. He also walks me over to his garage key pad reading the numbers to me and showing my his broom and his edger saying that is was out to get him because it has spikes (you know those old school manual edgers) Asking me if I like the yellow shovel because he thinks it's an awful yellow. I say my goodbyes and tell him it was nice to meet him and leave his house
As I get home I call my mom and tell her the story and she says that I should go back and make sure he really does live there and wasn't wandering from a care center. Freak! I didn't know what to do. I was just happy to find his home. Back to Bill's I head
Chapter 2
If you are still with me I pull into his driveway one more time and am relieved to find Bill safe in his home. He gives me a tour of his house pointing out every little thing telling me about it. He showed me pictures on the wall and tells me about his family which I think he and his wife must have adopted hispanic kids because they were both white but his kids were not. He pointed to and asked "whose this old man with big ears" (himself). And my favorite Bill quote as he points to a black and white picture of his I think son or Son-in-law he says " now I could be wrong but he looks like a negro in this picture" Oh Bill. What a character. I tell him I need to go which he completely ignores me and keeps talking and following me outside clearly not wanting me to leave. Luckily as I get into my car his I think grandson pulls up and i tell him I am just dropping Bill off and he asked where he was and then was just like oh. I say my goodbyes and pull away. The end
Luckily when I went back to his house I asked if I could take a picture of him. I needed a face for my story. Here he is Ladies and Gents; William (Bill) Melton. If you know him tell him I say Hello

This Calls for a Celebration!

As many of you know last Tuesday was my birthday. Well I wanted to document my little birthday celebration because it was such an enjoyable night. :)
First off I had to work for a little bit that day so as I was sitting in on my patients exam and in comes Nick, Mike, and Chance singing Happy Birthday and holding a cake. Oh how Nick loves to embarrass me. They left and we chowed down on some yummy cake.
That night Nick told me we were going somewhere nice for dinner but he wouldn't tell me where. Well I had my assumptions even though Nick tried to throw me off by taking a little detour but in the end we made it to The Roof. The Roof has always been on our bucket list because I have never eaten there. Needless to say I left very full and about ready to pop! Thank you Nick for always making me feel so special on my birthday! I love you! Here are some pics of the evening.

Home Improvements (Take I)

And the decorating has begun! Here are a few things that I have been working on as of lately. I have so much fun decorating! If only I had all the money I needed to do it. Boy do I have big plans for this house. Some day, some day. First off is this lovely desk that I found on KSL. Thank you KSL for providing me with all my basic needs. D.I. you are disappointing me more and more these days. I love the way it turned out! It's a bit brighter than I imagined but I kind of like how it steals the attention of the room. I wanted a contrast with my light blue walls and I think it has just that!

I thought stripes were the perfect compliment to the yellow so I lined the drawers with paper using mod podge. I also made a mouse pad... not such a great success so I will have to re-do that one.
I think these knobs give it just the right touch!

Next we must say goodbye to Horton

He was cute and well done he just wasn't my taste and didn't belong in my house. He is in a much happier place now

Sorry for the bad photo. I didn't feel like switching out my lens on my nice camera so this is what you get. This pic doesn't give this blue justice but I LOVE the color!

Goodbye red wall. Overall I love the feel of this room now. This was the first room make over that Nick and I did in our house. Awe...

Moving on to the window casing. Nick's friend Morgan does finishing work in houses so we had him come over and put casing around our windows. I love how much better they look. They give it a better looking, finished look in my opinion.

Its natural for the before picture to be a little more messy right? :)

This a window in our bay area in the kitchen. Once again, a nice finished look. It's crazy how different paint can look in different lighting.

This area was a little tricky because of the cabinets so I left it up to Morgan's expert opinion and I think he did a great job!

Decorating the dreaded space above the Cabinets. I don't know about you guys but I hate decorating awkward areas like this and when we first moved in I wasn't excited about having that gap above the cabinets but I am actually pleased with how they are looking

I made those birds by printing a silhouette off line, glueing it to a cereal box, cutting it out and spray painting it black. A couple people have thought it was made out of metal so I would say they are a success!

That tea set is what started it all! I saw them at Ross and loved them so I knew I needed to incorporate them. That grass.... let's just say it was time consuming but I didn't mind doing it. I bought a bushel at Hobby Lobby and cut each piece off and stuck it into styrofoam at the bottom of the tins. Viola! (one on right is looking a little bald)

Flower ball is made just from little silk flowers that I glued to a styrofoam ball. The "K" I found at Hobby Lobby as well as the frame and it's glued to blue paper and lace. Bird made the same as the others.
I have one more spot that I am working on that I will definitely share when it's all done.

TIME CONSUMING:

I made these as a center piece for my table and I can not make another one of those flowers. I refuse! This took quite some time because I would work on it here and there but I am happy it is complete. Well almost. I feel like it needs something else but I haven't figured it out yet. Suggestions?

Movie Room! I am decorating my T.V. room as a movie theme and these are just the beginning.. Right Nick? :) He he

Christmas Time in the City

I got the opportunity to go with Nick on one of his work travels at the beginning of the month to New York. When I found out Nick was going to New York in December I wasn't going to let him go without me. I love New York any way but I knew New York in December would be amazing! We had a lot of fun! Did a lot of delicious food eating, Broadway show watching, and we even lucked out again and got into the Letterman Show. Once again I will let the pictures do the talking so follow me as I take a look at our trip in retrospect.

There were about 300+ people there that night. After seeing Nick present for the first time I realized how fitting this job really is for him. He did a great job and I am a proud wife :)

Times Square at 1 in the morning. That is the time to go if you want to beat the crowd. You just won't get much shopping done

Rockefeller Building. We met a crazy security guard this night who told us all about them finding the right tree and how he went in the helicopter with Mr. Rockefeller to cut it down and how he saved his friend a lot of money because it was in his friends yard and was going to cut it down anyway. He and Mr. Rockefeller are such good friends that Mr. Rockefeller put him on the graveyard shift..... The pieces just weren't fitting. Nice guy anyway

We were going to go ice skating but we procrastinated until the weekend and then it was just a mad house there so we never went :(

No explanation needed

Katzs Delicatessen where "When Harry Met Sally" "I'll have what she's having" scene was filmed. Nick was driving around because there was no parking while we ran in and got food which was ironic because Nick loves that movie so he was a little sad he didn't go in after finding out that movie was filmed there.

Hot chocolate from Bald Man Chocolates. Yummy! They also had these waffles that had melted chocolate all over them that were amazing!

Chocolate in the syringe. What more could you ask for? I was bringing this home for my mom but it exploded in my purse so Nick and everyone else got to sample some. Sorry mom.

Just found out that we got tickets to David Letterman! Bill O'Reilly was the guest so not that interesting for me.

Just won front row tickets to Wicked for only 26 bucks a ticket! They do a lottery drawing every night before the show. Our names as well as the couple we were with got drawn. Talk about luck!

All these people hoping to have their names drawn and we were the lucky ones. :) there were about 12 names drawn and that included 2 tickets each.

Wintuk. The winter adventure that takes the WHOLE family by storm. Whole family key word there. Didn't realize it was such a kids show when the tickets were purchased. We wanted to go to a Cirque Du Soleil show so now we can say we have been :)

They did make it snow though so that was pretty sweet

What a month!

Wow where to begin... Lets start by going back to the beginning of October when I wake up to find water dripping from our closet. I wont bore you with all the details so long story short the neighbors above us were leaking down on us from their shower which this just happened to happen the same week that the renters were moving in. So $3400 dollars later (thank goodness for insurance) the water damage is fixed and the renters are all moved in. I have to admit I was a little sad to be moving from mine and Nick's "first place" together. sniff sniff. Moving on. That weekend that we moved out we also had a trip to Nashville to get ready for PLUS we had not closed on our house yet so Nick's bro and SIL were generous enough to provide a roof over our heads until we closed. Now on to our trip!
Nick and I took my mom to Nashville for my moms birthday.. Why Nashville you ask? Well for one its Nick's favorite city in the whole world plus I have never been and always wanted to and my mom didn't care where we went so Nashville here we come. Here is a little break down of our trip

My mom and I went to Menopause the Musical before Nick got into town. (you're welcome Nick) My mom loved it more than I did but maybe that's because it was a little more age appropriate :)

We got the privilege of spending one more night because our plane was cancelled due to inclement weather. All in all it was a great trip and i wouldn't mind visiting again one day. I know Nick sure wouldn't mind!

A few weeks ago Nick, myself, Mike and Amie all got to go to Lady Antebellum at the new Rail event center in SL. I really liked the venue so if a band you like it going I suggest you go! They put on a great show!

Craft time take 2

As you all know I like to craft. I like to create something out of nothing. I especially like to take old things and make them look new again. I guess those are just more rewarding seeing the transformation. Here are a few of my projects I have been working on. When I brought the rocking chair home Nick didn't have much to say about it. He is used to me bringing home "junk" and just tolerates it. In fact the other night he asked me if I wanted to do anything with his belt that he was getting rid of. He knows I am always on the lookout for my next project. Thanks babe. Tell me what you guys think!

Thank you D.I. for this beauty. My mom was telling me these rocking chairs were quite popular back in the day

Technically I'm not done because both the cushions are loose. Still need to glue those. I stuffed the cushions so they would be fuller and I glazed the wood. You really can't see the glaze that well but it dumbed down the white just a little bit.

I had extra material so I made this pillow but I'm not completely sold on it yet.

This was also a D.I. find. I got it for a photography prop but I am sure I can find a place for it in our new home. :) It was just plain super old wood that didn't have a gloss or anything on it and I just painted and antiqued it.

This was in some decoration magazine that I'm not sure the name of. It was fun to make! It's a styrofoam wreath wrapped in black duct tape with candy corns super glued on.
These are just super easy button earrings that I made in two seconds. You just pop the back of the button and super glue it to an earring post.

The other night Nick and I had a little time on our hands..... and maybe a few wigs. When wigs are involved you're bound to have a good time. Lets just say they kept us entertained for quite some time.

Wow! Where do I start!? Nick and I went to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos which is a small island in the Caribbean. We went there to celebrate our second anniversary. This place was A-MAZING! The beaches were perfect! The water was perfect, the sand was perfect, the light breeze was perfect. It really was prefect! Not to mention the beaches were so secluded. It would be a great honeymoon spot. There were times that I felt like we were stranded on an island because there was absolutely no one around. Well that's enough from me. I will let all the pictures do the talking.

These are glow worms mating. Every month 3-4 days after the full moon and 54 minutes after the sunset the glow worms do this mating ritual. Yeah they have it down to the last minute. Crazy!

I just added some roses and ruffles to it. What more could a girl want!? The bag already had this fun bright pink on the inside that I wanted to incorporate on the outside
I found another use for those square metal tins that I have. I made a magnet board! The photos I tried to make old and vintage looking to go with the rest of the look. I then outlined it in lace and put the bigger rose on the corner. Oh and the magnets are those twisty roses that I put on the bag above. Super easy!
These lovelies I found at Ross on clearance for $8.99. Now I'm not sure but I am going to say they were on clearance because of that awful pink color they came in.

so viola! I spray painted them yellow! It actually worked better than I anticipated. Tip: If any of you are wanting to make over your shoes I sprayed a cotton pad and then wiped it on the shoe. Much easier!

However my hands did take a tole but it's all in the name of cute shoes!

Last but not least. I bought this adorable dress at Ross (have I ever mentioned I love that store?) but like most their dresses there it was too short! So I added some lace to the bottom of the dress and sleeves. disclaimer: this pic make me look like I have a bad gut. I have one but it's not that big! I shot this using my new tripod! :) So tell me what you guys think of my new creations!

Spanish Fork Hot Pots

All my time living in Utah I never knew that there were hot pots up Spanish Fork canyon. Well Ty and Bre gave us the pleasure the other night of being our guide to the pots and let me tell you they felt GREAT! as for the smell..... lets just say I am still smelling rotten eggs. There was a nice leisurely 2 mile hike/walk to the pots and then there are several different ones to choose from once you get there. For those of you who have never been I HIGHLY suggest you go!

Hummingbird Sanctuary

I have to blog about this because after this happened Nick said "hey you can blog about this" so I don't want to let him down. SO as Nick and I were walking in from church today then we see this poor little hummingbird with its wings expanded, lifeless in our breezeway. The poor little bugga was still alive but barely. So me having the mother Theresa heart that I have, took the bird in to nurture it. You know if a hummingbird is letting me approach it, it must not feel well. I love animals and I especially like miniature things so I couldn't resist. Especially since Nick told me a dog or cat would probably get to it if I left it. I brought it in in this little tupperware that we had and sat some sugar water in a pop lid for it to drink. To my disappointment it didn't even acknowledge it was there so I went and found a red flower knowing that they are attracted to red.... still, nothing. So i tried poring a little down the side of the tupperware where the birds beak was resting. Sure enough I see this string like tongue come out and lap the water off the side. This apparently gave it enough energy to fly up to our hanging basket so I followed it up there with a little cup full of sugar water and basically dunked its beak in the water. It drank a little then sat up on the rim of the cup. It sat there as it stared at me wide eyed and I was calling for Nick to get a pic of me holding it but as Nick came out.... it flew away! My little guy was all better. It was so gratifying seeing him fly up into the trees. I am sure it's comparable to sending your kid off for their first day of school. :) Nick is pretty sure it was diabetic and just needed a little sugar. A few things I learned through this experience. One, humming birds have actual beaks. I always thought they were tube like beaks that didn't open. Two, hummingbirds have freaky really long, really skinny tongues. And Three, everyone/thing deserves a second chance! :)

Graduation, the day I thought would never come

Really I should be embarrassed that I am blogging about this because it is almost 2 months later HOWEVER due to the fact that I am graduated and have not yet found a job I have some free time on my hands and I decided to kill some time with looking at previous posts of mine and realized it's fun to look back at them. So this is probably more for me than anyone else. Anywho, I graduated May 7th from what felt like the longest, most hellish (pretty sure that's not a word) program in my life. I was in the Dental Hygiene program at Salt Lake Community College and though I am glad that I did it, I am even more glad that's it's over. After many, many hours of studying, lots of money, days of stressing and nights of frustration and tears I can now officially call myself a Registered Dental Hygienist. R.D.H. for short! WAHOOO!!!! Now if only I could find that thing called a job.....

Making something out of nothing

We recently rearranged our room and we needed something to hang above our bed. Well I knew that Nick's brother had these square metal sheets that they were getting rid of and I thought they would be perfect for our room. I originally thought it would be cool to take a picture of a cool branch and divide it into 3 pictures and hang them but that "cool branch" was non existent so I settled for these weeds. I took the picture and I wish I could say that I helped edit them but Alyssia did all the work. I did give my input though. :) I developed the pictures at Costco into a 16X20 then cut 4 inches off the 20 inch side making them square. I then glued them to a foam board and cut them out, cutting my skin along the way. So this is the end result! Tell me what you think. I didn't take these pictures in raw accidentally and I didn't realize how much better raw photos edit. Oh well! lesson learned.

I went with Alyssia the other day to take some of Lindsay's bridals. Lindsay looked B-E-A-Utiful in her wedding dress. Alyssia has been a great mentor with my amateur photography. The other day I ran to DI to drop a few items off and while I was there I thought to myself, I am going to run in and see what they have to offer because I had been wanting a table and chair for my sewing machine. Well lo and behold this is what I found
It's one of those old sewing machine tables that the sewing machine flips up from inside. Isn't it awesome!? Then I found this beauty to go with.
Maybe not much to look now but it will when I am done. I went the fabric store to see what I could find thinking I was going to paint it a turquoise color but then I found this and loved it and decided it had to go on my chair.
While I was painting I noticed a little label that said DEBBY on it and I couldn't help but wonder who Debby was and the things she sewed and how old she was if she was even alive still. Oh the stories this table could tell if it could talk. After a lot of time (that I should have spent studying) I came up with this I replaced the knob, gave the new chair a nice fluffy pad to cushion my bum with the many hours I will spend sewing and I added some brown streaks here and there to give it an older look. I just used regular old ink for stamps. Is that allowed? All in all I was happy the way it turned out. I better get sewing!

The Best Husband a Girl Could Ask For

Nick for my big 25th birthday threw me a very unexpected surprise party. The night started out with him planning on taking me "out" for my birthday. That was it, no matter how much I pestered him he would not tell me anymore than that. SO the details... First thing when I got into the car was this cute little black bag with polka dot paper. Upon opening it I found New Moon DVD, no I am not a "Twihard" but I don't mind a sappy teen love story here and there. After driving on the freeway and nearing our exit he told me I need to put on my blindfold aka his scarf. He told me several times throughout the drive that I better not be peeking. He then took me out of the car and led me to.... Somewhere. All I knew is it sounded like a parking garage because it echoed as he talked. Once he unveiled my face I look down to this rather large group on the Energy Solutions Arena Jazz court floor all screaming SURPRISE! I wish we could have got a picture of what I saw because my first thought was, oh people from the arena are here because I don't know this many people. As I walked the long mile down the what felt like 350 stairs with all eyes on me I realized that all of my friends and family were on the court to celebrate my birthday with me. WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE! Nick of course not stopping there led us all into the wives room where the Jazz player's wives hang out during the Jazz games. There we ate a delicious cookie dough ice cream cake from cold stone ( world's best ice cream) YUMMM and some other goodies, Nick also had someone there from his work to draw characatures of everyone (thanks Kurt) as well as a DJ and free reign on the basketball court to play some ball. Nick also made this really sweet video for me that had everyone share a story about me as well as him wishing me a happy birthday from the many cities he has visited from his work travels. As the night neared to the end we danced to the Boot Scootin Boogey, the Electric Slide, the Hokey Pokey and the Virginia Reel. It was by far the best birthday celebration I have ever had. Thanks so much to all of you that came and Nick, I couldn't have landed a better husband. Don't know what I did to be so lucky. Thanks for making me feel special and I will always remember my surprise 25th birthday party at the ESA. Can't wait to see what 30 brings me :)

Something to blog about

Finally! Nick and I did something worth blogging about. (I know I make it sound like I live this boring life) Over New Years we went to visit Hil and Adam in Seattle as well as visit where Nick served his mission in Everett, Washington. It was fun to go down memory lane with Nick as we drove along and he would tell me what happened in that exact spot. We covered all he wanted to see of his mission in..... about a day. Two years lived and it only took one day? I guess missions are more about the experiences than the places you go. :) The next day we drove up to Vancouver, Canada and saw what the city had to offer (not much). After that we met up with Hil and Adam for a rockin' good time. We visited down town Seattle, stayed at a lake house, went kayaking in the rain, shopped, swung on a 135 ft rope swing (Hil and Adam missed out on this one), went on the underground Seattle tour, met the man, drank fruit drinks called bubbly tea, played a lot of games and ate and ate and ate. Nick and I were going to head down town Seattle for New Years but we missed the ferry so we ended up watching Top Gun and drinking sparkling cider with Hil and Adam. Nothing brings in the New Year like Top Gun. After saying our goodbyes to Hil and Adam we stopped by Snoqualmie Falls and visited this cute little town called Leavenworth. After emptying our trip money and putting 2500 miles on my car I would say it was all worth it.

I think the thing I should mention first about this blog is I got Nick to dress up. Thanks for being such a great sport Nickolas. Especially considering what you dressed as. SO I have this two headed monster costume that my sister made when she was in high school. Lindsay and I had the pleasure of dressing as for three years in a row. It happened to be our favorite. When I found out that Samantha was having a halloween party I thought it was the perfect opportunity to relive those two headed monster days. After some persuading Nick we showed up like this. :) This picture was taken exatly 13 years apart in the exact same location. My times have changed. For one, Alyssia is taller than us! Sorry Lyss those days are over. Oh and we were not the only ones that got to dress up. Prez was a punk and yes that's a garbage bag he has as a vest.

They love to be held like teddy bears

Nick and I went camping for labor day. It was the first time that we have ever been camping together. Weird I know, we live in Utah and that was the first time together. We went with our friends Chance and Leslee Lundgren. Nick was nice enough to cook us tinfoil dinners we just forgot something to eat it with. Good thing we have fingers. It was a very relaxing, low key night. I love camping this time of year and it makes me excited for fall! Fall camping anyone?

Some guy came up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder and as she looked behind her, she tripped and fell. Not just a stumble but full on fell on her face with her gym bag and all. Ha ha ha I hate to laugh at other people's expense but it was funny! The worst part was I had to walk past her with a straight face. It was hilarious! That is all.

I made a few alterations on my clothes because I decided ,why not fix them to how you want them? Here are the final products. Yes there are some timed photos and yes I have too much time on my hands.. not for long though. Also I told Nick yesterday that we should do something spontaneous and he suggested going to the Saltair. I of course brought the camera along and of course took some pictures of the sunset. I thought the sunset was too cool not to share. I edited the sunset pictures and made them brighter but I decided that's cheating and undid them so they are true to color. I promise these will be the last of the sunset pics.

Bear Lake round 2

Last weekend we went to bear lake again with a bunch of people. Fortunately no one fell in the lake this time, or should I say unfortunately :) We did go to Bloomington Lake again and people were going off the rope swing into the water but none of us had our swimsuits on so that didn't happen for us. We did go boating at Bear Lake though which I am always up for. I hope to some day own a boat but I am still convincing Nick that he wants one too. We also buried Lindsay in the sand and gave her her dream body. It was a lot of fun and hopefully we can go back next year for round 3.

One year already?

Nick and I celebrated our one year anniversary yesterday. After I camped for three days and Nick had been traveling for three days we were both pretty exhausted and slept a good part of the day away. After awakening from our much needed naps we went to Trio cafe because that is where we had our luncheon. It was delicious! For anyone that hasn't been there I recommend you go! After dinner we went home and made chocolate dipped strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries, danced on our deck to I need you by Tim and Faith because that was our first dance song and Nick was paranoid the whole time that someone could see us, then we went and lit sparklers because we still had some left over from our wedding. I would like to say we ate the top of our cake, especially since it was saved for that purpose... however it was mistakenly thrown away as old ice cream since it was in a ice cream tub:( . It was my year to plan and I know, I am pretty cheesy! We had a good time though. Especially with the sparklers as you can see from the pics. Marriage is an adventure, but one I am glad I am taking. Someone in our ward summed it up pretty well in their talk when he said my wife is one of my biggest challenges but also one of my biggest blessings. I think that goes for wives AND husbands. There isn't a better match for me and I am so happy to be a part of Nick's life. The end.

When you walked the bugs rippled away like water. It was actually really cool looking.

When Nick leaves on his business trips it gets lonely and I have to find thing to fill the void. Tonight I decided to go to Saltair and take some pictures of the sunset. I am a little obsessed with sunsets. I want to live on the hill on the east side just so I can watch the sunset every night. Here are some of the shots I got. I was so mad because as I was driving and about 15 mins away then the sky turned all sorts of colors and I was so tempted to go back and take more pictures but I did not. Next time. I love it there. Aside from the stench and never knowing what you are going to step in, not to mention the billions upon billions of bugs. If you can get past all that, it is so peaceful and amazing!

When Boredom Gets the Best of You

Nick gave me a sewing machine for Christmas (even though I saw it in his trunk) and I have not had a chance to really sew anything on it other than making a few alterations on my clothes here and there. So... with more free time than I would like to have lately it has forced to me to finish unfinished projects. I made these quilt blocks in high school, senior year in needle arts, Mrs. Penrod's class, great times to be had. Anyway so I decided to finish the quilt as maybe a fourth of July quilt. Something to lay down and watch the fireworks or something of that sort. Here is the finished product. Luckily you cant see up close to see my sewing job.

Greatest City in the World

Hey hey hey, it's big Nick updating the blog per Dyanna's request. Yay, yay, yay!!! Just wanting to report about our most recent excursion to the big NYC, passing thru the Philly and AC (that's short for Philadelphia and Atlantic City. We sure did have a good time out there. You bet we did. Here's the update minute by minute.

Day 1: Philadelphia: Liberty Bell. Independence Hall. Citizen's Bank Park for the Phillies and Red Sox game.

Day 2: Atlantic City: Chilled on the boardwalk, checked out the funnel cakes, and ate delicious greeeeeeesy pizza.

Day 3: Dy and I sent the entire day in NYC. We hit up all the great tourists spots...Times Square, Central Park, 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Plaza, 49 steps broadway and of course the Late Show with David Letterman. We got to see a taping of the Late Show, and Dave asked us (that's right, asked us like me and Dy) to stand up and show off our Late Show shirts. He then gave us a $100 bucks and said it was not necessary for us to buy that stuff.

Day 4: Another day in the BIG city. All of us, Shaun, Sharee the kids and us spent time at the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and the NEW Yankee Stadium. We watched a slow game, that got very exciting in the end but the Yankee's ended up loosing in the long run because A-Rod sucks.

Day 5: Wasted day. Don't ask. Just know it was a wasted day.

Day 6: Boys to the US Open and girls to the City to watch Mamma Mia.

Day 7: I'm totally bored of writing this so i am not going to write anymore.
Wow.... Sorry guys that may be the last time I ask Nick to update the blog. Because this is the only one he has written I will keep it and just add pictures because I know that's why you look at blogs anyway. :) Enjoy!

A few of us went to Stuart falls tonight where we ended up reenacting Man from Snowy River and hiked through snow to get to the Waterfalls. Me thinking it was summer went prepared for a nice summer hike in shorts and a t-shirt. Not expecting what I'd find. It wasn't too bad though once we started hiking. I have to say Stuart falls is much prettier in the summer but it was still a nice little hike through the mountains....and snow. Also I went outside of our condo the other day and this hen duck had 7 little ducklings. They were the cutest little things. Sad thing is I only saw them this one day. I guess there is always next year.

This past weekend Nick and I went to Vegas to see Phantom of the Opera for my birthday. Which was an excellent Broadway. Even though I couldn't understand what they were saying most of the time I still thoroughly enjoyed it. The night before the show we were waiting for country singers to come out because it was the CMA's in Vegas last weekend. Well we saw a few. Chuck Wick who I didn't know at the time but is still attractive none the less. We also saw Bucky from American Idol and last but not least Taylor Swift......'s mom. Not Taylor Swift, her mom. That was still very exciting for Nick. We ran up to her and had a nice convo with her while we walked her to her taxi. She talked about how it makes her mad Scalpers get her tickets and she talked about how Taylor gets bombarded in the meat department at grocery stores in her home town and I asked if she wears those big sun glasses and she said there isn't a need to because she worked so hard to get her name known there is no sense is trying to cover her up. Well said Taylor's mom. I also told her to excuse my husband and she said it's ok, he is just enthusiastic which she loves and that she isn't worried. She was a very nice lady. I proceeded to tell her that she is a cool mom and Nick gave me a little smile and after told me I was becoming a true Killpack. I could only avoid it for so long. :) kidding. All in all it was a great weekend and I was sad to come home.

Since I don't have any children to blog about I am left with blogging about my dog. After Prezley was looking pretty mangy I decided to take him to the nearest Petco to have his first hair cut. Well second cut technically if you count the trim he got from my sister while she was watching him. Anyway I took him and was excited to see the results..... Poor little bugga came out with a hack job. Not a good look for him. I think next time I will cut it myself. Thank you Petco! Oh and all of Prezley's baby teeth are loose. Our little one is growing up so fast! :)

Nick and I went on a 7 day cruise this past week to the Southern Caribbean. We were lucky enough to accompany his work on an all expense paid for incentive cruise for the distributors at Young Living. We traveled to San Juan where we spent a night before our cruise departed the next day. We did many fun things while traveling to the different stops. One of which was my favorite was the stop in Dominica where we swam under this waterfall with freezing cold water and later sat in the hot springs. Second favorite had to be the zip line in Barbados. Other than that it was just hanging out on the beach and eating lots and lots of food. If I was on the ship any longer I would of had to of been rolled out. They had this delicious homemade ice cream that I can't even count how many times I consumed it. That may have been my favorite part of the trip.... well maybe a toss up between that and a drunken distributor hopping up on Nick, wrapping her legs around him ready for a go around. Hilarious! Just not for him. I think Nick enjoyed this cruise better than the last one but I think we are both cruised out for a while.

Day at the Spa

Gina, Nick's sister got us gift certificates to a spa in sugar house called Breathe for helping her out with painting her house. When we arrived we were given a mini tour then we were directed to the changing rooms where we had lockers personalized with our names on it. After changing into our robes and slippers we went and waited in the "Tea room" where we listened to relaxing music with a warm pack around our necks while munching on pretzels, cookies and these delicious creamy chocolates and sipped on warm apple cider. Following that we were lead into our massage rooms were we enjoyed an hour of a deep, total relaxation massage. It was amazing and a great way to just relax and forget about everything! It was also a great pre valentines celebration. Thank you Gina!!

After much begging and bugging and compromising and some more bugging I finally convinced Nick to let me get a dog. His name is Prezley Nickolas Killpack. I just decided his middle name and I am sure Nick would approve. He is a great addition to our family even though I want to strangle him sometimes for being a hyper, biting, chewing, pooping, peeing puppy. Secretly I think Nick loves him though he will never admit it. Who cant help but fall in love with a face like this?

Nick and I have been taking full advantage of my Christmas break. A few weekends ago Lindsay, Jeni and I went boarding at Canyons resort even though there was absolutely no snow we still had a great time! Later that night the husbands along with Hil, Alyssia and Crystal joined us and we went to eat at Red Rock and sat in the hot tub at the condo where we spent the night. It was yet again, so fun to hang out with everyone (well almost everyone) and catch up.
The very next day Nick and I left for our cruise to the Bahamas. This was Nick's first cruise so I got to introduce him to the joys of cruising... although I am not sure he would agree with that statement. We both had a great time but he is not sure he would go on another cruise. We did a lot of relaxing while we were there but at Key West we went sea kayaking which was a TON of fun! We saw a bunch of weird sea creatures which we got to touch and pick up. I can't wait until our next cruise together. Right Nick? :)

Burr Lake ha!

This past weekend Nick and I went up to bear lake with a few friends were we played games, ate a ton of food and did a lot of necessary catching up. One of the days we decided to hike to this little lake that was about 45 minutes from bear lake. We were all there enjoying the beauty of the lake when Jesse and Nick find this rope swing on the other side of the lake. Nick goes on it a few times, then Jesse goes a few times and by this time we are all over by them and Nick decides to go again.... this time wasn't so graceful. He swings out, his foot goes through the hole tied on the rope and he is caught on the rope as it swings back and forth. We are all laughing at this point when all the sudden Nick falls COMPLETELY in. ha ha It might have been the most entertaining part of the trip. Well that and Nick trying on some neon work out clothes from the 80s that were at the cabin. It was a great weekend and I can't wait until our next trip together.

We have a new addition to the family. I didn't want to tell anyone that I was pregnant because we were unsure of the babies health but as you can see it's a healthy baby boy. Everyone keeps saying how much he looks like Nick. Nick is so proud of that fact. We couldn't be happier with our new little one and to be new parents.

Nick and I went to Midway this past weekend and stayed in the Zermatt hotel. Whoever thought to put a Swiss town in the middle of Utah was ingenious. Who wants to travel to Switzerland when we have our own Switzerland right here? Apon arrival and check in they gave us these delicious truffle balls covered in cinnamon and sugar and I am not huge truffle fan but I could eat a whole box of those. Then we went to the town's attraction "the crater" which is basically a volcanoe looking things with warm water in the center that people can scuba dive, snorkel or even just swim in. However we did not get the opportunity to swim. Instead we went to dinner and ate some yummy gelato after. Why execise when you can eat? We had a good time and hope to go back soon.

One more and I am caught up. Since our wedding is over and summer has come to an end and I am back in school and Nick is on business trips we haven't had the chance to get out and do much but we did go hiking the other day up big cottonwood canyon. Our destination was this lake called Dog lake.. but we didn't see any of dog lake. We hiked in a good two miles and half or so and called it quits cause we weren't seeing it. Once we got back to the entrance we noticed on the sign that it said it was 3 miles in. If we hadn't given up and just gone that extra 1/2 of mile we might of actually seen Dog lake. Moral of the story, don't give up. We did get some pretty sweet shots though.

Californiyay

Nick and I had the opportunity to fly to California to go to his old roommates wedding. We stayed with this sweet little Thai lady names Noi who fed us and gave us little gifts from Thailand. Mine happened to be the coolest and it was an Asian Moomoo (no idea how to spell that) It looks more Polynesian to me but it says made in Thailand so who knows. Anyway we had a good time. It was short but we made the best of it by visiting the LA temple and going to a little get together where Nick and I were the only white people. We watched the Olympics and ate some.... interesting food.

Bear Lake

So first things first, the weekend following our honeymoon we went up to Bear Lake with my family. Every year my family goes up to Bear Lake and lucky for Nick he got to come along this year and be a part of all the drama. No, it was pretty drama free this year but I can't say that about the previous years. I just hope that it wasn't a wake up call for Nick and that he wasn't wondering what he got himself into. we all had a good time and for those of you who have never been to Bear Lake I suggest you go!

Wow I am just learning how to do this whole blogging thing and it is much more difficult than I thought it would be. It took me a good hour or two to set up my page. I guess it doesn't help that I am technologically challenged either. Nick tells me that I spend too much time on Face book. Embarrassingly enough he is probably right. So this can be my new addiction. Besides this is for "married people" so it's okay to waste my time on it right? Here is goes, I hope I can manage posting more blogs.
